“PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” developer Krafton has taken another big step forward into blockchain gaming. The company has announced its partnership with Solana Labs, the developers of the Solana blockchain. The two companies plan to build their own blockchain games and token to power their play-to-earn (P2E) Web3 offerings.
Solana Will Build Krafton’s Web3 Games
The deal between Krafton and Solana will be a “long-term cooperative relationship for the development and operation of blockchain, and NFT-based games and services.” Both companies have agreed to cooperate in establishing joint business opportunities, investments, and the development of blockchain games.
According to Krafton’s lead Web3 Roundtable Hyungchul Park, the factors for choosing Solana were their high performance, speed, and low fees.
“As one of the best global high-performance blockchains with strength in high speed and low fees, Solana represents the best of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and its technologies. Through this cooperation, Krafton will acquire the insight needed to accelerate its investment in and output of blockchain-based experiences.”

As more organizations integrate new technology into their business models, this decision could force other big developers contemplating blockchain gaming to consider Solana as their development chain of choice.
“We are seeing gamers increasingly seek out on-chain games and gaming companies who respond quickly to this demand will set themselves up well for ongoing success.”
– Johnny Lee, head of Games Business Development at Solana Labs
More Gaming Companies Going Blockchain
Krafton’s movement is part of its recent pivot to blockchain games, NFTs, and Web3. The company gained equity in two non-fungible token (NFT) and digital IP protection companies, Seoul Auction Blue ($2.5 million) and Xbyblue ($4.1 million) in February 2022. Krafton is also developing a joint metaverse platform with Naver Z, which has experience in building 3D worlds and AI.
Krafton is one of the many gaming companies that has jumped into the blockchain gaming bandwagon. Other companies include Square Enix and Ubisoft.
