Major gameplay updates for Farsite Players! Gates are now open so starship pilots can fly outside of their home system to various star systems. In addition, they can now build refineries to extract specialized resources. So far, the team has been faithfully and steadily releasing additions to the game to the community’s delight.
To recap, the blockchain-powered MMO game features elements of real-time strategy. Players can take on all kinds of roles to be part of a bigger intergalactic economy. Every item in the game is made by players, using resources that they also acquired.
Farsite Gameplay Update #1: Gates Are Now Open
The Gates open in Farsite in two days, January 27th. Players will be able to travel through them to visit different systems and transport resources between sectors. This basically lifts the restrictions to starship pilots on where they can fly. Players should definitely take advantage of gate travel being free now that the game is still in the pre-alpha stage.

There will be fees involved in traveling through Gates on top of fuel costs in the future. The fuel cost increases based on the weight of the ship and the distance traveled. Gates have predefined connections and only go to one place. However, stars may have multiple gates leading to different systems. So more than traveling from Point A to Point B, this update enables players to stock up their ships with cargo for transportation!
Gameplay Update #2: Refining Now Available!
Last October 2021, the team allowed players to buy land parcels aka Sectors on a total of eight different planets across the game’s persistent decentralized universe. Sector owners then engaged in base building, built basic mining structures, and harvested raw resources.
So how are Refineries different?
The key difference is that Refineries create more specialized resources. Processing resources at a Refinery yields one core resource plus one or two extra or side resources. To illustrate, processing Hydrogen Gas yields Hydrogen, Solid CO2 and Planetary Dust. Take note that players create every item in the game using the materials and resources they find. So introducing the Refineries is a major spin to the gameplay.
Deviating from the usual virtual asset drops, which accept crypto as payment, players need credits to purchase assets and this applies to Refineries. Buying one would cost 500,000 Credits plus several thousand Resources. So it is quite expensive. However, the returns are tremendous. Being able to produce second-tier Resources will likely be an invaluable ability.
Reception So Far
Yes, Farsite has yet to unveil the entirety of the game but it seems the community is happy with the release pace. So all is well.
One exciting aspect is the intricate token and network system. Farsite’s Credits exist on the Polygon blockchain, while the game also offers FAR tokens. 1 FAR token will always be 1000 Credits. Farsite is built on the Ethereum blockchain and should be compatible with Ethereum 2.0. The game uses three layers: Ethereum (L1), Polygon (L2), and ZK Relay (L3).
In addition, the game is yet to release plans for markets, base construction, ship crafting, planetary governance, and more!
