Mike Shinoda Claps Back at the NFT Haters in the Gaming Community

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda has a message for NFT haters in the gaming community! He tweeted, “I’m surprised by so much negative sentiment by gamers about NFTs. Can we chat?” He then laid down his insights and counterarguments, expressing his support for NFTs.

Mike Shinoda vs. NFT Haters in the Gaming Community

Shinoda is deep into NFTs. Before 2021 ended, his generative mixtape ZIGGURATS on Spotify and as expected, the NFTs sold out in a matter of minutes. The co-vocalist of the alt-metal band released the music NFT artwork Collection on green blockchain Tezos. So he easily rebuffed NFT haters using the carbon footprint card. He tweeted, “Do they not know yet that there are eco-friendly NFTs?”

He also shared several articles from various media channels addressing environmental concerns over NFTs. The eco-friendly innovations he is talking about are energy-light “proof of stake” blockchains like Binance, Solana, Tezos and Flow. Unlike their “proof of work” counterparts, Bitcoin and Ethereum, these blockchains are energy-efficient.

He argued that much of the hate is because people are still learning that NFTs are more than JPEGs. “It could be a skin, a song, an item, a movie, a character, an environment or a game itself.” In addition, Crypto miners have bought up a lot of hardware resources and driven up prices. So these incidents left a bad taste in peoples’ mouths.

For Shinoda, another misconception is that gamers don’t trust devs because they think “this is another way to squeeze a dollar out of us.” He refuted this by saying that games that win will be the ones who GIVE to the community, not take.
